POSITION: Camp JCC Camper Care Professional

REPORTS TO: Camp, Youth & Family Engagement Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

Camp JCC Camper Care Professionals will work as a team to support counselors with camper behaviors and group dynamics to continue Camp JCC's policy of inclusion. This role will include participating in camper intake conversations,, creating support systems for campers of all ages and abilities to aid in success, responding to counselor requests for assistance regarding behaviors for both individual campers and the group. Camper Care Professionals must be ready to guide current inclusive best practices to support the diverse needs of the Camp JCC community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates plans to integrate campers with varying needs into the daily schedule with their peers

  • Works with group counselors to put support systems into practice and form a community within their camper groups

  • Helps educate and guide counselors about varying needs, best practices, and community building

  • Communicates with the leadership team to problem solving for unmet needs and growth for campers

  • Responds to incidents around camp for all age groups as needed to support the group staff

  • Follows Camp JCC policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • At least 21 years of age

  • Previous experience working with children with varying needs, preferably in a day camp or school setting

  • Desire and ability to work with children with varying needs in a camp setting

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required

  • Must possess good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control

  • Ability to focus on the specific needs of many campers within the Camp JCC

  • Must be physically able to work outdoors in different weather conditions, including heat.

WORK SCHEDULE: 

  • The dates of employment for 2024 are June 10-August 9, which includes a week of Tsevet (Staff) Training. Work hours are Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30, excluding extended days that involve early arrival and dismissal in the early evening.
