ISRAEL & OVERSEAS

Since 2003, the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary, along with our friends at the Jewish Federation of Durham-Chapel Hill, have played an active role within the Israel Task Force.

The Ganei Alon Community Center serves mainly Ethiopian immigrants. Over the years, the Jewish Federations of Raleigh-Cary and Durham-Chapel Hill have contributed a computer room, renovated and equipped the children's club, and the youth club, purchased board games and books, sports products, and digital equipment. We have also contributed to the establishment of a sports field near the community center. The field is accessible to the residents around the neighborhood and its surroundings. The field is also used for various gatherings and community events.

The task force was established for smaller Jewish communities through Jewish Federation of North America to connect with cities in Israel. This task force helps support the Ethiopian community of Ganei Alon (“gardens of oak trees”) in our sister city, Hadera. Over the years, collectively, the task force has raised about $15,000 each year, building community gardens, after school facilities, computer labs, and much more. The community is deeply grateful for our continued support; anytime we have folks from our community visit, they are welcomed into Ganei Alon as family and given an extensive tour to see firsthand the impact we are making on their neighborhood.

In 2019 we have the opportunity to once again create something very special for the residents of Ganei Alon, as we are raising money to build a Music Room. This will be a space where the children and youth can play, sing, and record. The music room will include computers, music production software, monitors, stands and screens for the monitors, desks for the computers, sound cards with effect processor, an analogical volume controller, wiring, microphones, a controller, and acoustics. We can't wait to see the space when it is finished and hear how the participants are enjoying it.

If you would like to support our efforts in building this dynamic space for the youth in Ganei Alon, click here and select “Israel Task Force.”
