The Jewish Federation includes our integrated agencies: Jewish Family Services, Jewish Community Center, Jewish Community Relations Council, and the Jewish Community Foundation, and a host of program and services to engage and care for the community.

Camp JCC Raleigh is a program of the Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh that provides enriching, joyful, and inclusive experiences for children and families. Through camps, special events, and year-round programming, Camp JCC fosters friendship, personal growth, Jewish identity, and community while creating memories that last a lifetime.

Position Description

The Camp Director provides leadership, oversight, and management for Camp JCC, ensuring exceptional, safe, engaging, and inclusive camp experiences aligned with the mission and values of the Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh. The Camp Director plans, implements, administers, and evaluates all camp programs, including Summer Day Camp, School's Out-J's In programs, and special events.

The Camp Director fosters meaningful Jewish experiences, develops and leads high-performing staff teams, strengthens relationships with families and community partners, and ensures Camp JCC's ongoing growth and long-term sustainability.

Core Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

Camp JCC Program Leadership and Operations

  • Provide overall leadership, direction, and management for all Camp JCC programs and services, including summer camp, School's Out-J's In programs, and special events.

  • Ensure all programs deliver a safe, engaging, and high-quality experience that supports the Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh's mission.

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and positive environment for campers, families, staff, and the community.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate camp programming to ensure innovation, excellence, continuous improvement, and growth.

  • Establish operational goals, policies, and procedures to support effective program delivery.

  • Maintain all required records, documentation, policies, and procedures.

Staff Leadership and Development

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate seasonal camp staff.

  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and effective scheduling for all camp programs.

  • Foster a positive team culture that encourages engagement, accountability, collaboration, and excellence.

  • Provide ongoing professional development opportunities and mentorship for staff.

  • Manage employee performance, address personnel issues, and support staff growth and retention.

  • Lead regular staff meetings, training sessions, and evaluations to maintain high standards of performance and participant care.

Family Engagement and Customer Service

  • Build strong relationships with campers and their families through proactive communication and exceptional customer service.

  • Address parent concerns, questions, and feedback promptly, professionally, and with compassion.

  • Create a camp culture that fosters belonging, respect, and positive experiences for all participants.

  • Partner with families to support camper success and well-being.

Budget and Financial Management

  • Develop and manage the annual Camp JCC operating budget.

  • Monitor revenue and expenses to ensure fiscal responsibility and program sustainability.

  • Develop and implement enrollment, recruitment, and retention strategies to increase camp participation.

  • Track enrollment, program performance, and financial outcomes.

  • Collaborate with organizational leadership on forecasting, strategic growth initiatives, and long-term planning.

  • Identify opportunities to increase participation, revenue, and operational efficiency.

Community Engagement and Enrollment Growth

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with campers, families, congregations, schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders.

  • Represent Camp JCC and the Jewish Federation at community events, meetings, and outreach initiatives.

  • Promote Camp JCC programs through community partnerships and engagement.

Jewish Engagement

  • Ensure that Jewish values, traditions, culture, and community are thoughtfully woven throughout all aspects of camp life.

  • Create meaningful Jewish experiences that are joyful, inclusive, and welcoming for children and families from all Jewish backgrounds.

  • Incorporate Jewish holidays, Hebrew, Israeli culture, music, storytelling, traditions, and values into camp programming in age-appropriate ways.

  • Foster a strong sense of Jewish identity, belonging, and community among campers and staff members.

  • Serve as a positive role model who embodies Jewish values and the Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh's mission.

Risk Management and Safety

  • Monitor risk management practices and implement safety protocols across all camp programs.

  • Ensure that emergency procedures, staff training, and participant supervision standards are consistently followed.

  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, licensing requirements, and organizational policies.

  • Lead crisis response efforts and communicate effectively with families and leadership as needed.

  • Promote a culture of safety, preparedness, and accountability.

Experience & Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Recreation, Youth Development, Jewish Studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 4-7 years of leadership experience in camp, youth programming, recreation, education, or a related setting.

  • Demonstrated success in supervising staff, managing programs, and overseeing budgets.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to build relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners.

  • Commitment to fostering inclusive environments and delivering exceptional participant experiences.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and extended summer schedules as needed.

Preferred

  • Experience leading Jewish camp, youth, or educational programs.

  • Knowledge of Jewish traditions, culture, values, and community life.

  • Experience with enrollment management, marketing, or community outreach.

  • CPR, First Aid, and Youth Protection certifications or ability to obtain upon hire.

Markers of Success

  • Within the first two years, increase camp enrollment.

  • Strengthen staff recruitment, training, and retention.

  • Introduce innovative programming that enhances the camper experience

  • Ensure Jewish values, traditions, culture, and community are thoughtfully woven throughout every aspect of camp life.

  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive camp environment.

  • Meet or exceed annual budget and enrollment goals

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to families, participants, and employees.
