A Statement on the Hedingham Shooting

The Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary is stunned and saddened by yesterday’s mass shooting in the Hedingham neighborhood of Raleigh. We mourn the five lives lost yesterday to this violence, including an off-duty Raleigh Police Department officer.

We commend law enforcement on their swift action in apprehending the alleged shooter.

Jewish tradition teaches, “Whoever saves a single life is considered by scripture to have saved the whole world.” In this spirit, we call on our elected officials to take all possible actions to reduce gun violence.
