"Bene Israel Jews of India"
The Jews of India have an ancient fascinating history, including how they originally came to India. Today there are different Jewish communities in India with specific Indian Jewish customs and synagogue traditions. Dr. Gail Joseph's presentation will focus on this as well as customs of the Bene Israel Jews to which she belongs.
Gail Joseph, whose parents are both Indian Jews, was raised in a traditional Indian and very Jewish home. The synagogue was close to home where she attended shabbat services every Friday. Dr. Joseph got her Masters degree in Biotechnology at the University of Mumbai, and her Ph.D at A&T University in Greensboro. She is currently a Research Scientist at a cancer research company in the Triangle. Gail and her husband will become parents for the first time in December.
