Program Description: "To Laugh! Jews and Humor: A 5000-Year-Old Love Story" with Janis Zaremba

It is difficult to determine whether laughter or tears has been the most constant companion of the Jewish people during the 5,000 year journey. Either way, over the years - and especially the last 200 - jocularity has become an indispensable piece of our culture and survival tools.

Janis Zaremba is a valued community leader and educator. She was instrumental in bringing the Melton course of study to the area and received the Florence Melton Award for exemplifying the core values upon which the Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning was founded. Janis has held numerous leadership roles in our community at various synagogues, and most recently with the Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh as part of the Jewish Community Relations Council. She has educated adults and children alike and will be embarking on a new series with several partners at Beth Meyer Synagogue in the new year called, Fight Like a Mensch. Janis, along with her husband, John, raised three amazing children, right here in Raleigh.
