Create, Connect & Kibbitz: Art for Untangling with Joanna Hody

  • David R. Kahn Community Campus 12804 Norwood Road Raleigh, NC, 27613 United States (map)

Program Description: Imagine a four-part series built like a constellation. Each workshop is distinct, yet all orbit around the same idea: discovering creativity through unexpected forms of touch, texture, and transformation. Join us for all four, just one, or any combination that works for you!

Art for Untangling with Joanna Hody: Do you have a brain that feels like it is always on a roller coaster or a record player stuck on repeat? No? Lucky you! You will still have fun and make something beautiful. For the rest of us, this session offers a deeply calming, process-based art experience inspired by Zentangle and neurographic art. We will use simple lines, curves, and patterns to slow down, settle our systems, and create meditative drawings that support gentle self-expression.

These styles of art do not require any prior experience and do not focus on creating a finished image. Instead, we will work with repetition and flow, allowing the artwork to develop naturally. Mindful creation like this can help reduce stress, quiet your mind, and support a sense of grounded connection to peace. All the materials we will use are simple and accessible, and the emphasis is on presence rather than perfection.

Instructor: Joanna is a therapist, educator, and facilitator who uses creative and reflective practices to support emotional regulation, self-awareness, and connection. Her work centers on accessible, gentle approaches that invite curiosity, creativity, and compassion rather than performance or perfection. She enjoys creating spaces where warmth and acceptance guide the experience.
