JCC Speaker Lunch: “The Joy of Text: Shavuot, Torah, and Being Jewish in the 21st Century”

  • David R. Kahn Community Campus 12804 Norwood Road Raleigh, NC, 27613 United States (map)

Program Description: “The Joy of Text: Shavuot, Torah, and Being Jewish in the 21st Century” with BJ Davis

The Joy of Text is an intimate look at learning and enjoying Jewish wisdom through text study with a partner or a small group. Join BJ Davis, as he leads us to discuss, explore, and wrestle with a variety of source texts and contemporary writings that examine the idea of a Jewish covenant. Together we will learn both traditional and contemporary ways to look at what “being Jewish” can mean for each of us today and for future generations.

After retiring as Director of Education at the NC Museum of History, BJ Davis earned a master's degree in Jewish studies at Philadelphia’s Gratz College. Focused on Jewish learning, BJ  is active in two Jewish education institutes, New York City’s Hadar Institute and Jerusalem’s Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies. BJ studies with 3 study partners each week, coordinates a bi-weekly Zoom morning minyan, and leads monthly Kabbalat Shabbat services at Raleigh’s Magnolia Glen senior living.
