JCC Speaker Luncheon: "The Attitudes of American Jews Toward Israel: A Study of Public Opinion"

  • David R. Kahn Community Campus 12804 Norwood Road Raleigh, NC, 27613 United States (map)

Program Description: “The Attitudes of American Jews Toward Israel: A Study of Public Opinion” with Dr. Motti Inbari

In this lecture, Dr. Motti Inbari (UNC Pembroke) presents the groundbreaking results of a May 2023 survey of 1100 respondents on the attitudes of American Jews toward core Jewish beliefs, concerns about antisemitism, and their views on Israel. This survey is part of a larger research investigation into the views of religious communities in America toward Israel, including evangelicals and Catholics. Thus, the views of American Jews would be compared with those of other Christian faith communities. The lecture also addresses the impact of the October 7 events on American Jews and examines the directions this community might take as a result of the trauma.

Dr. Motti Inbari is a Jewish studies professor at UNC Pembroke and is considered a leading scholar. He lives in Raleigh with his family and has given talks at the JCC multiple times. Dr. Inbari has authored seven books, and his teaching and research focus on Jewish history, thought, and culture, with expertise in Jewish politics and ethics, gender, and Jewish-Christian relations. His forthcoming book, co-authored with Kirill Bumin, is Support for Israel and the American Religious Landscape, forthcoming from Oxford University Press in 2027.
